Surveillance Detection - How Much Has Changed?

From Moro in the late ’70s to Herrhausen in the ’80s, Reso in the ’90s, and more recently, Omar García Harfuch in 2020, there has been a common denominator. In each of these attacks, surveillance detection has played a significant role in the scenario’s outcome. 

Surveillance Detection is not a new phenomenon. Other than technology, nothing much has changed.

Understanding how, when, and where an attacker is likely to conduct surveillance as well as how to plan, manage and conduct effective surveillance detection operations is an essential tool for security providers.

The objective of surveillance detection is to read these signals and take action to prevent an incident. Pre-incident indicators, no matter how many or how often, must be detected and acted on.
