Angry Mob Surrounding a Vehicle

What Can You Do If a Mob Surrounds Your Car?

Washington Gun Law President William Kirk discusses a recent video that has been kicking around in the virtual universe, which shows an elderly gentleman surrounded by an angry mob of pro-Palestinian protestors who decided to start smashing his car. This leads us to one of the most common questions: What can you legally do when you find yourself and your vehicle surrounded by an angry mob? The answer is much more complicated than you might think.

Ford Expedition SUV

The Battelle Memorial Institute Armored Ford Expedition

In our August newsletter, we discussed the Diplomatic Security Service, and GM Defense had completed Phase III in developing next-generation armored Heavy-Duty Sports Utility Vehicles. Basically, the State Department had awarded a contract to GM to build a purpose-built civilian armored SUV using the Heavy-Duty Suburban as the platform.

We also mention that a similar contract was awarded to Battelle Memorial Institute to develop an aftermarket armoring solution for the Ford Expedition. We have yet to hear or read much about the progress or testing of the Ford Expedition. But their website mentions that they are building them, and they are on the road. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will find a video about the Expedition manufacturing process.

The Suburban is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) vehicle; in fact, GM stated that an additional long-term value is expected through a five-year, 50,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty and extended vehicle lifespan as compared to the current two-year, 2,000-mile warranty typical of the multi-stage aftermarket armoring process.  The Expedition is an aftermarket vehicle. Also, we could not find the cost of the Ford Expedition.

We (ISDA) would like to see the test results of both vehicles.

ASIS to Better Recognize Professionals in Executive Protection

ASIS to Better Recognize Professionals in Executive Protection

We came across a post in the ASIS Executive Protection Community Digest.

Historically, ASIS lacked a mechanism for those engaged in the EP Profession to communicate their involvement within the community. This has now changed. The recent announcement from ASIS reads:

“To better recognize professionals in executive protection, ASIS has introduced Executive Protection as an industry choice in its member profile. Notably, executive protection was previously only available as a selection within the subject matter interest section of the form.”

The significance of this update might not be immediately apparent, but it marks a substantial stride toward identifying and acknowledging the efforts of the EP Community.

Breaking the Ice: The Realities of AWD and Winter Driving Safety

Breaking the Ice: The Realities of AWD and Winter Driving Safety

A skilled security driver knows that driving in winter conditions significantly decreases the vehicle’s capability, any vehicle, including all-wheel drive (AWD). Some of the 4WD/AWD drivers think they have a vehicle that can defy the laws of physics.

No matter what the T.V. ads show, no AWD or 4WD system will compensate for decreased adhesion.

The Close Protection and Security Journal (CPSJ)

From the International Protective Security Board (IPSB) - The Close Protection and Security Journal (CPSJ)

The International Protective Security Board (IPSB) has published the first Close Protection and Security Journal (CPSJ).

The following is from Chuck Randolph, President and Founding Member of the IPSB.

The CPSJ has several objectives:

  • “To provide a platform for the dissemination of high-quality, peer-reviewed research in the field of close protection and security.  To foster a community of scholars and practitioners who can share ideas and best practices.

  • To promote innovation and the development of new and effective close protection and security strategies.

  • To elevate the best practices of professionalism in the close protection and security industry.”

After reading the first Close Protection and Security Journal, we feel they have accomplished those objectives - great job.
