JD Power 2023 Study on Vehicle Quality

According to the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM, problems with vehicles have reached an all-time high. The study indicates that safety systems are causing some of the problems. From the study, “One of the most problematic areas are lane departure warning/lane keeping assistance and forward collision warning/automatic emergency braking for those that have these features”. Unfortunately, the study did not specify the nature of the issues.

The study is based on responses from 93,380 purchasers and lessees of new 2023 model-year vehicles.

Brands that are above average are: Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and BMW.

Brands that are below average are: Ford, Mercedes Benz, Land Rover, Lincoln, and Chrysler.

The highest ranking (lowest problems) for premium SUVs was the Cadillac Escalade.

The study also points out that more than three-fourths (80%) of owners say their new vehicle includes all four of the primary driver assistance features—forward collision warning; lane-keeping assistance; lane departure warning; and blind spot warning. As we (ISDA) have said often - if you are conducting driver training, you must address the effect of ADAS on Secure Transportation.

The eight-page press release provides some interesting data.
